Here are some of the most common questions people ask our team.

How do I know my project passed the moisture test?

These are not pass or fail tests.  They are quantitative readings that specific manufactures use for warranties.  Before testing, it is important for to understand the tests and data ranges required by the manufacturers.

How do I know if Moisture testing is required?

Moisture testing is required on almost every project where resilient flooring will be used.  Independent, third-party testing can help determine the proper preparation of the concrete slab, helping to eliminate future flooring problems.  Concrete slab moisture testing is also required by the flooring manufacturers for warranty purposes.

How do I know when my project is ready to be tested for moisture?

Your project is ready to be tested once the space is fully enclosed and has been acclimated for 48 hours at service conditions.  ASTM standards require the following ranges be maintained throughout the testing process; 65°-85° temp and 40%-60% relative humidity.

What is the importance of independent, third party moisture testing?

Experience, Conflict of Interest & Recommendations.  An experienced moisture testing firm will have the client's best interests in mind at all times.  Our job is to provide reliable information, expert solutions and to exceed your expectations.  When you hire an independent third party firm, they typically have much more experience is the specific skills and knowledge required to perform the tests accurately and with consistency.

Once testing has been completed our standard report turnaround is 3 business days (72 hours), however if a report needs to be expedited, we may be able to process it on the same day or within 24hrs after receiving data. There are several ways we can help in getting your data out to you asap. Each project is special and treated with urgency to ensure the client gets what they need.

What tests does IFTI use? Why?

ASTM F2170 - Relative Humidity (RH) testing: Standard Test Method for Determining Relative Humidity in Concrete Floor Slabs Using in situ Probes. This test method will provide you with valuable information about how much moisture is within the concrete.

ASTM F1869 - Calcium Chloride/ Moisture Vapor Emission Rate (MVER) testing: ASTM F1869 Standard Test Method for Measuring Moisture Vapor Emission Rate of Concrete Subfloor Using Anhydrous Calcium Chloride. This test method will provide you with valuable information about how much moisture is emitting from the surface of the concrete.

ASTM F710 - pH Testing: Standard Practice for Preparing Concrete Floors to Receive Resilient Flooring. This test method measures the concentration of hydrogen ions within an aqueous solution.  Both high concentrations (acidic) and low concentrations (alkaline) are known to negatively affect flooring and adhesives.
