INDEPENDENT FLOORING EXPERT

Failure Analysis: Is it Moisture, or is it Workmanship?

Shape

When a commercial floor fails, the finger-pointing begins immediately. The installer blames the concrete; the GC blames the adhesive; the owner blames the architect. In these disputes, opinion is worthless. Data is king.

IFTI provides the forensic evidence required to determine the root cause of failure.

The Hierarchy of Failure

Not all bubbles and blisters are caused by moisture. IFTI forensic investigations often reveal:

  • Adhesive Issues: Improper trowel notch size or open time errors (Workmanship).
  • Surface Prep: Inadequate grinding or presence of bond breakers (Workmanship).
  • Moisture: High RH or pH levels attacking the bond (Site Conditions).
  • Product Failure: Defective material (Manufacturing).

The Independent Witness

Because IFTI sells no flooring and manufactures no sealers, our reports are unbiased. We do not have a “dog in the fight.” We strictly adhere to ASTM standards to gather facts. This makes our reports highly defensible in mediation or litigation.

Resolve the dispute with data. Engage IFTI for independent forensic analysis.
